Roma, my homa!

I return today to il mio primo amore , my first European love, la Chita Eterna. As if you can forget how much you love a place, I forgot how much I love this place, albeit it has been eleven years since I left. Thought you got rid of me, eh ROMA? PAH.

List of things I literally ran through the city doing today:

  1. Toured the entire Vatican before noon, including the Vatican Museums, la Capella Sistena (Sistene Chapel....just, obvi.), St. Peter's basilica and St. Peter's square. I'm no art fanatic, but DANG. The Vatican can definitely make you one. And St. Peter's Basilica is even more stellar than I remembered, including the famed Pieta. If you ever tour the Vatican solo, here's a tip: pretend to bewith one of the MULTIPLE guided tours going on, and you get awesome history lectures FO FREE. Nothing like being a free-loader in the city-state of God, am i right?
  2. Returned to the Spanish steps and failed to find a Geocache there
  3. Returned to the cafe where I ate my FIRST foreign meal EVER and subsequently fell in love with Europe. Bazing.
  4. Walked to the Trevi Fountain. Legend has it that if you throw a coin in the fountain, you'll return to Rome one day (did it in 2003, so it WORKS). And if you throw two coins in, you'll find true love (pause for sappy AW)! Naturally I threw ALL my coins in, which I am hoping will buy me a return to Rome, true love, killer gelato before I leave tomorrow, and a chance meeting with Tom Hanks someday. I spent like 4 euro. Cmon.
  5. Walked to my FAVORITE Roma building, the Pantheon. It is by far the most beautiful building in the city, and I love love love it.
  6. Walked to and played around in the Piazza Navona, the Piazza del Popolo, Santa Maria del Popolo, y San Giovanni de Laterno. Rome vomits churches and they're all totally worth the look.
  7. Walked to Castel San Angelo and it was closed (fail).
Now I'm off to find dinner (come at me CARBS) and, if I'm being honest, probs gelato. OK DEFINITELY GELATO, LEAVE ME ALONE.

Pace, amore, e giunti di gin,
-M
